The Working Certificate (WC) is a test of natural retrieving instinct. Tests are pass/fail and only one pass is needed to earn the certificate.

The test involves one retrieve on land and two back-to-back retrieves in water. These are generally about 50 yards long.

Birds are usually dead ducks or sometimes pigeons. There is a gunshot (using blank ammo) to simulate a hunt and gunners are often visible from the line.

You can hold your dog by the collar, if needed. Your dog just needs to get the bird and bring it back to you (at least near to you).

These tests are fun for people and even more fun for the dogs!
